Thomas Hall Music

The Music Education Program is directed by Thomas Hall and provides many opportunities for student growth in music education. Students meet weekly for a special music emphasis. Students learn about music vocabulary, modern and historic composers, music notation, composition, vocal and instrumental performance, music recording and software, and much more! Within a school year, the students at Sacred Heart Elementary perform in two main musical productions,  a Christmas musical and spring musical.

Students also have opportunities to be involved in small ensembles. Viking Voices is a small vocal ensemble ranging only of fourth to sixth grade students. The music in this ensemble is slightly more advanced and provides opportunities for students to sing two & three part harmony. Viking Voices performs special pieces during the musical productions, and, at times, may travel for special community performances.     Viking Sounds is a small hand-bell ensemble, consisting of fourth to sixth grade students. The emphasis with this ensemble is instrumental performance, and understanding music notation. Students learn to count basic and intermediate rhythms, pitch names, and how to perform these pieces as a group. This provides an opportunity for students to work independently at home.  Viking Sounds also performs special pieces during the musical productions, and often travels with Viking Voices when performing for special community performances.
