Athletic Policy
Sacred Heart Board Policy 110
1. Sacred Heart School athletes (including athletes, managers, and cheerleaders) will adhere to the following regulations:
The athlete must be a 4th, 5th, or 6th grade student in good standing with his/her principal, teacher, and coach.
The athlete must maintain good grades. If an athlete receives a failing grade in any subject on their report card they will not participate in athletics during the following grading period.
Suspension from athletics could result from disregarding the rules of Sacred Heart School, behavior during practices and games in which the athlete is representing the school.
If an athlete receives a detention, the athlete will not participate in the first game that occurs following the day the detention was received.
If an athlete is absent an entire day from school due to illness, they cannot participate in that day's scheduled game.
An athlete who has an unexcused absence from practice may be subject to the coach's discipline. It will be the decision of the coach whether he/she will have to cut students from the team.
Parents are responsible for arranging transportation to and from practices and games at the designated times assigned by the coach. Suspension from athletics could result if the athlete is not picked up at the scheduled time.
Athletes must have a current physical report on file in the school office prior to participation in a competitive activity.
2. Managers may be chosen by the coach in each sport and must serve satisfactorily in the sport he/she manages.
3. Athletic awards will be presented to the athlete, manager, and cheerleader only after they have returned their laundered uniform to the coach no later than the date designated by the coach. Only one monogram will be presented to an athlete. The remaining awards will be inserts and bars. The awards and established standards are:
Monogram with sport insert - awarded when the athlete has made one of the teams for the first time.
Sport insert - awarded when the athlete has made one of the other teams for the first time.
Bar insert - awarded when the athlete has made a team for the second and third year.
4. The coach of any sport has the right to establish additional regulations and will communicate these to the parents and athletes, preferably in writing.
