Finance Committee
This committee makes recommendations and approvals for parish and school expenses.
Friends for the Journey
The goal of this ministry is to provide presence, prayer and sacraments to parishioners who
are hospitalized or homebound and to parishioners in the local nursing homes. Eucharistic ministers for the sick
are trained on prayer and pastoral visitation, understanding sickness and healing and listening skills. Training is
ongoing with a meeting every two months.
Friends of Jesus
"Friends of Jesus" is the religious education program for parishioners of any age with
special needs. The group, guided by parish volunteers, meets twice a month (September through May) to share in
fellowship, prayer, scripture, doctrine and service. Class time is divided between group sharing and small
group lessons.
Funeral Meals
Funeral dinners are provided if the families wish to have one. Families pay for the meat.
Ladies of the parish are called to provide a covered dish. The Rosary Altar Society buys all drinks and paper products
needed for the meal. Volunteers serve the meal and assist in cleanup.
Gardening
Gardening involves planting and taking care of all flower pots around the church, office and
the rectory, trimming the shrubs around all the buildings as well as fertilizing and watering as needed.
Girl Scouts and Brownies
The Girl Scout program is an informal education program designed to help girls put into
practice the fundamental principles of the Girl Scout movement. The Girl Scout program is based on four goals.
Each girl strives to:
1. Develop to her full individual potential.
2. Relate to others with increasing understanding, skill and respect.
3. Develop values to guide her actions and to provide the foundation for sound decision-making.
4. Contribute to the improvement of society.
Junior Girl Scouts is open to grades 4 through 6; Brownies is open to grades 1 through 3.

Grant writing knowledge or skill for school or parish projects.

Hispanic Ministry
Hispanic ministry is the Church's response to the Hispanic presence. It is an integral
part of the life and mission of the Church in this country. It includes seeking ways to promote and facilitate
the full incorporation of Hispanic Catholics. It involves a collaborative effort with the entire community
honoring and respecting the rich contributions of the Hispanic Catholics and the call to solidarity with the
multiple cultures present in the Church.
Home and School Association
Sacred Heart School parents and teachers working together for the school children. Meetings
are four times a year.
Jail Ministry
It is the responsibility of this group to see that any Catholics who are
incarcerated have the sacraments available to them on a regular basis and to make sure the spiritual needs of
the prisoners are met.
Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus is an international fraternal organization of practicing Catholic
men 18 years of age and older. The principles of the Knights of Columbus are God, Family, Fraternity and
Community. The Sacred Heart parish Knights assist the parish and school whenever a need arises.
Lector
These proclaimers of the Word are scheduled for a month at a time. They must attend
Diocesan classes for instruction and participate yearly in a time-of-renewal. Each person in this ministry
is furnished with a yearly workbook to assist in their preparation of the Readings of the day.
M.O.M.S.
Personal spiritual growth and renewal program for mothers of all ages. Eight weekly
sessions are available.
Maintenance Committee
A group of volunteers who meet regularly to make necessary repairs and improvements or
secure bids for projects that require outside expertise.
Market Day
Market Day is a food co-op program wherein Sacred Heart School receives at least 10%
profit from the sale of the food products. The products are quickly prepared, convenient and very tasty. All
of the products have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Market Day also offers a program called SchoolShare where
the school receives a specified profit from various vendors if an order is placed to the vendor through the
Market Day web site. Visit www.marketday.com for information or to place an order. Every month, we have
Market Day on a predetermined Saturday. Volunteers are needed from 8:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on the sale date.
Anyone is welcome to volunteer.
Marriage Encounter
A weekend experience for married couples who want to make a good marriage better.
Memorial Tree
The Memorial Tree at Christmas time is a remembrance of the parishioners who have died
during the current church year. The tree is adorned with ornaments, one for each departed parishioner. After
Epiphany, the ornaments are removed from the tree, boxed and sent to a family member at the beginning of the
next Advent.
Men of Prayer
Sacred Heart "Men of Prayer" is dedicated to building up the body of Christ within
ourselves, our families, our church community and those around us. This is done through the guidance of the
Holy Spirit as we seek God through His word, the mass, the sacraments, prayer and the teachings of the
Catholic Church.
Money Counters
Parishioners are scheduled to pick up the offerings on a specified Sunday (based on a
quarterly schedule given out in advance). On Sunday mornings, they open the collection envelopes, count the
money, and fill out the worksheets for the Parish Office.
Musician
Guitarists, flutists, string players (violin and cello), drummers and many other
instrumentals are needed throughout the church year. If you play an instrument, please register that
information with the Music Directory so that we can make full use of your talents.
Organists and pianists who are able to lead the congregation and accompany liturgical song are in short
supply. Often they are called to server nearly every weekend They must be able to read music and follow
liturgical norms. Anyone interested in this position is asked to call the Director of Music for more
information.
Currently, there are two teen masses each month. One is led by the middle school students and the other by
the high school students. Instrumentalists are encouraged to join the teen band.
