This board is a regulatory body operating educational facilities at Sacred Heart Parish,
subject to regulations that might proceed from the Diocesan Board of Education. The duties and function of this
board include planning, policy formation/implementation, finances, recommending persons for the position of
principal, marketing and evaluation.
The board has a consultative relationship with the pastor. The relationship that exists is one of information
sharing and common planning for the benefit of the total parish community.
Boy Scouts
The Boy Scouts promote, through cooperation with other agencies, the ability of youth
to do things for themselves and others. Values taught include patriotism, courage, leadership, self-reliance
and kindred virtues. The youths achieve these values using oaths, promises, codes for character development,
citizenship training, outdoor skills (camping), and other physical fitness. At Sacred Heart, the Boy Scouts of
America is one of the premier units of the area.
Cantor
Individuals who lead the congregation in song are called cantors. Often they are also
"Psalmists" or the ones who lead the singing of the Psalm during the Liturgy of the Word. They are scheduled
for each Mass by: 1) signing up or putting their name on the calendar in the Music office 2) being assigned by
the Music Director for a particular Mass 3) being called to lead at a certain Mass or service. Most cantors
are asked to serve about once a month. Prospective cantors may call the Music Director for an audition.
Capital Campaigns
These are held when the parish or diocese has a major fundraising program for new
buildings, renovation, et cetera. Parishioners are needed to organize it and see to its completion in the
parish.

The chancel choir accepts anyone from 7th grade and older. The choir sings at the
Saturday evening mass on the Saturday before the first Sunday of each month. Most of the remainder of the
year they sing at the 11:00 a.m. Mass unless there is a compelling reason for their appearance at the 8:30
a.m. Mass (i.e. RCIA rites, etc.) They rehearse on Thursday evening from the 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. and on Sundays
from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. prior to the 11:00 a.m. Mass. In addition to Sunday masses, they also provide a
leadership role during special liturgical times of the year such as Holy Week and Christmas, parish renewals,
et cetera. Membership's only requirement is a love of singing.
